OUR LAST MEETING OF

THE ROTARY YEAR IS JUNE 22

Our guest speaker will be Past District Governor John Wilson.  His topic will be the Rotary Foundation.  It’s especially timely, because we will once again be requesting that all Rotarians participate in the EREY …. Every Rotarian; Every Year …. Campaign when our dues bills go out later this month.   John’s experience with Rotary should provide the impetus for all of us to participate.

John B. Wilson has been a Rotarian since 1973, first in Jersey City and since 1984 in Newark. He has held a number of leadership posts in Rotary such as club president, club board member and club foundation chair. At the district level he is a past district governor, former scholarship committee chair, six-time district foundation committee chair and currently serves on the district foundation committee as chair of the district endowment and major donor subcommittee. His tenure as district governor in 2018-19 was the first year of the district merger he helped to implement.

A retired higher education executive, Wilson has served in various administrative positions at Saint Peter’s University and Seton Hall University. For three decades he was based here in Summit at the association that represented independent colleges and universities in New Jersey for public policy and corporate fundraising.

Practicing what he preaches, Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree from Saint Peter’s; an MBA from Rutgers School of Business and a JD from Seton Hall University School of Law. He has been a member of the New Jersey Bar since 1990.

Beyond Rotary, Wilson serves on the Board of Trustees of Saint Peter’s University and the Board of Directors of Liberty Savings Federal Credit Union. He also is an appointed Public Member of the New Jersey Insurance Underwriters Association, the state-mandated insurer of last resort for property and casualty coverage in our state.

He and his wife, Joyce, are the parents of three children and grandparents of eight grandkids. The Wilson’s reside. In Morris Township, NJ.

IT’S BEEN A BUSY MONTH:

SCHOLARSHIPS:  We awarded our 101st series of scholarships to four outstanding seniors from Summit and New Providence High schools.

The recipients from NPHS are, Chase Yarnell, attending Northwestern University and Eva Krautheim, attending West Chester University.  The recipients from SHS are Emma Matamoros, attending Seton Hall and Nicola Solis-Negron, attending Washington University (St. Louis).

INAUGURATION: Last Tuesday evening the SNP Rotary held its 105th induction of a president of the Club.

Outgoing president, David Dietze, thanked all the Rotarians who helped him successfully navigate the Club's many functions over the past two years.

Incoming president, Bradley Eich, told us he would  continue to promote and work for continuing our ongoing service projects and with the help of the Club's members, try to expand our footprint in the community.

There were about twenty-five Rotarians and guests who helped celebrate both the outgoing and incoming presidents.  As always, there was good food and good fellowship, and a special thanks to Donna & Henrik Patel and Francie Cho for arranging the evening's details.
