STATEGIC PLAN UPDATE:   I looked at the wrong month when I put out last week’s Headlight and announced the wrong date for the Strategic Plan Club Assembly.  The right date is Monday, September 14.  Melanie Cohn will lead the discussion which will include a review of the survey results which we published again last week.   

LAST WEEK: Our “guest” on Monday, July 27 was not really a guest, but long-time member, Neela Pushparaj. 

Neela has had an amazing life spanning two careers. Most of us know her as an artist. But, her talk focused on her first career - medical doctor and pathologist. Neela shared her own experience as a patient in a tuberculosis ward while still a med student. We also heard about her many unique medical experiences ranging from her first days as an intern in India right through her work at Muhlenberg and other institutions here in the United States. Some of the cases were amazing like finding a bullet in someone’s belly button after the man was shot by a husband who found him undressing in his bedroom or delivering a baby without any of the medical equipment that our moms have regularly today. 

And we learned the pathology report is much more accurate with a full medical history of the patient. And finally, to always get a second opinion. If you missed this one, you missed a good one!
