NO MEETING ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 28TH.
NEXT MEETING IS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH at 12:15 at Christ Church and it will be different in a special way. There will be NO PROGRAM scheduled. Instead we will consider the issues that were brought up by District Governor Jeannie Tsukamoto at last weeks meeting and hear some additional ideas from our Board members. That will be followed by an open discussion.
Here's what the DG presented to us as reported by our club scribe, Jim Fleischmann ……”Jeannie spent a good part of her time walking us through the abundance of information contained on the district 7475 web site. There is information ranging from demographics to membership numbers, info on every club, suggestions for speakers, information regarding grant applications, Rotary finance, projects, insurance, and a host of other things, i.e., a large repository of very useful information.
The most pressing issue facing Rotary in the US is declining membership. We are not alone; membership in social clubs and many other long-established institutions, including many religious organizations, have been suffering from attrition in membership for decades. On this topic, Jeannie noted that there have been huge changes in the past twenty-five years from technology to numerous social attitudes, i.e., things have changed and Rotary has to change if we are to remain relevant. She noted we must set priorities, adapt to be impactful and participate where needed – we are primarily a service organization.
Suggestions included doing a community assessment, partnering with other non-profits and other Rotary Clubs and networking.”

Our second meeting in November will feature Dana Turk who is the president of The Summit Foundation, having joined its board of trustees in 2015. In 2020, she was appointed by the mayor to the Sustain Summit Fund and is currently a member of the Silver Summit Senior Citizens Advisory Committee. Dana also serves on the advisory board for Family Promise Union County and previously worked as a grant writer for the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. With a background in finance, she was managing director at Deltec Asset Management in New York, specializing in emerging markets investments.
