This week we were entertained by the musicians from New Providence High School presenting their annual Christmas review. In attendance were Superintendent of Schools, Lauren Zirpoli and the NPHS principal, Brian Henry. In addition we were joined by seven members of the New Providence Lions Club as well as about twenty Rotarians and guests.
Ben Rubens conducted the Swingin’ Strings in three ‘jazzy’ arrangements: Feliz Navidad, Charlie Brown’s Xmas, and Rock of Ages - Fantasia.
This was followed by the Jazz Choir under the direction of Scott Ziegler performing three numbers: Sugar Plum from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, We need a Little Christmas, and Skating with my Baby.
They wrapped with the Jazz Band, under the direction of Michael Niedziejko performing This Could be the Start of Something Big and a medley of three pieces under the banner of Chili Pepper Xmas – it was hot.
All three sections were fantastic, and we love the enthusiasm and obvious pleasure these young musicians get from performing together. And, we appreciate the dedication and effort of their instructors, Messrs. Rubens, Ziegler and Niedziejko.
As we did at last week's SHS program - The Rotary wishes everyone a merry/happy, season whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, Donghi, or just the winter solstice, and a happy, safe and prosperous New Year.
