On Thursday, February 5th, the SNP Rotary delivered 165 specially designed English language dictionaries to the New Providence school district and 340 English and five Spanish/English dictionaries to the Summit school district. These dictionaries will be distributed to every third-grader in each district.
These dictionaries are designed by a non-profit organization, the Dictionary Project, specifically for children in the age range of eight to ten years. In addition to the normal contents of a dictionary, these editions contain a variety of extras such as the longest word, roman numerals, the names and brief histories of all the US presidents, many maps, information on the planets, weights and measures, American sign language symbols, and many more things designed to stimulate a young person’s mind. The teachers love these dictionaries as they consider them to be one of the best learning tools available and the kids love them because they are simply lots of fun.
