Today was a sad day for the SNP Rotary: we said goodbye to Joe Steiner, a Rotarian for 47 years. The good news is that it was a literal goodbye, not a wake! Joe is moving to the Palmetto State to be closer to his son and grandson.

Joe joined Rotary in 1979 at the tender age of 29 and went on to become a standout citizen of Summit. He probably did more for the city than anyone, and Rotary was only a small part of it. Joe and his late wife, Pam, were fixtures in Summit activities, often leading them. Among his many roles, Joe served for years as president of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce and was closely involved with the YMCA and Jaycees.

We'll miss Joe for two reasons. First, he handled practically everything administrative for the Club. Second, he's simply a very good person. (However, some Rotarians are annoyed that they'll now have to manage the Club themselves.)

Joe, you'll be missed.
